Trumpet, Tuba, and the Trombone

A trombone is a type of instrument. The musician blows air into one end while vibrating his or her lips. The air and the vibration make a sound. The musician can change the sound by moving a special part of the trombone called the slide.

The slide is a long tube. When the musician pushes the slide-out, the trombone makes a low-pitched sound. When the musician pulls the slide in, it makes a high-pitched sound. Each position of the slide can make a different musical note.

Joseph Alessi, Frank Rosolino, and Arthur Pryor are one of the most famous trombone players. Joseph Norman Alessi is an American classical trombonist who currently plays for the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and a soloist, teacher and recording artist.

Like the trumpet or the tuba, the trombone is made out of a metal called brass. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, which contains small proportions of elements such as arsenic, lead, phosphorus, aluminium, manganese, and silicon.

Trumpets and tubas make different notes when musicians press different buttons on them. Trombone differentiates itself from the trumpet and tuba, especially because of its slide.  Only the slide can change the notes that the trombone makes.
