Listening practice is crucial to developing language proficiency and comprehension. At Academia BSB, we offer listening activities drawn from a diverse range of sources, including podcasts, interviews, audiobooks, and news segments. We also produce a weekly newsletter/podcast with internal school communications and Podcast Challenges, with the aim of keeping you informed and telling you which materials will best help you at each stage of your learning, while keeping you focused on developing the CEFRL level framework.
Observing how students perform in different listening tasks and what challenges they present in various types of content is enlightening for us as teachers. We work with this information to provide students with the tools and strategies to improve their listening skills and help them progress towards language proficiency.
When practicing listening, it is not enough to listen passively. Music in the background or films with subtitles will not be enough. You need to work with up-to-date and relevant content. To truly learn, you need to “get your hands dirty” and do the activities and lessons related to what you are listening to, which is why we prepare content directly from podcasts to test your ability to understand English spoken in various contexts, with different accents (English, American, Indian, Chinese) and in various contexts (bars, relationships, work presentations).
Most students – who previously chose to study using traditional methods – are not as well developed in listening as they are in reading and writing, which leaves them unprepared for communication in the real world. That is why, at Academia BSB, we are concerned with developing the student’s ability to understand at the natural speed of fluent speakers and with their contextual nuances.
Through Podcast Help-outs and Podcast Challenges, we prepare students to train their ears in a manner that is geared towards each level of their linguistic maturity and with a view to filling the gaps between theoretical knowledge and practical use of the language. We create listening materials that match our students’ interests and proficiency levels. By working on these skills, students are also working on their general language skills, increasing their confidence in both social and professional settings.
Incorporating a variety of listening materials is essential to developing well-rounded listening skills. It’s not just about hearing language, but understanding and interpreting it effectively. By using materials of varying lengths and complexities, we can help students practice listening in realistic ways that address potential challenges they may face in the real world.
The listening skills you develop through our practice have significant applications in daily life. Whether you’re attending meetings, engaging in casual conversations, or consuming media, effective listening enables you to understand and respond appropriately. In our classes, we use listening materials that cater to different CEFRL levels and interests. For example:
- Beginner Levels (A1-A2): Short, simple dialogues and announcements.
- Intermediate Levels (B1-B2): News reports, interviews, and podcasts with more complex vocabulary.
- Advanced Levels (C1-C2): Academic lectures, debates, and advanced discussions.
By practicing with these materials, you gain exposure to a variety of speech patterns and contexts, improving your ability to follow and interpret spoken English in different settings.

A prática de escuta é crucial para desenvolver proficiência e compreensão linguística. Na Academia BSB, oferecemos atividades de audição extraídas uma gama diversificada de fontes, incluindo podcasts, entrevistas, audiolivros e segmentos de notícias. Produzimos também, um jornalzinho/podcast semanal com comunicações internas da escola e Desafios de Podcast (Podcast Challenges), com o objetivo de te manter informado e orientar quas materiais vão te ajudar melhor em cada estágio do seu aprendizado e mantermos o foco no desenvolvimento do framework de níveis do CEFRL.
Observar o desempenho dos em diferentes tarefas de escuta e quais desafios apresentam nos vários tipos de conteúdo é esclarecedor para nós como professores. Trabalhamos com essas informações para fornecer aos alunos as ferramentas e estratégias para melhorar suas habilidades de escuta e ajudá-los a progredirem rumoà a proficiência linguística.
Ao praticar a audição não basta ouvir passivamente. Somente música em segundo plano ou filmes com legendas não serão suficientes. É preciso trabalhar com conteúdo atualizado e relevante. Para você aprender de verdade, você precisa “colocar a mão na massa” e fazer as atividades e lições relacionadas ao que você está escutando, por isso preparamos conteúdos diretamente de podcasts para testar sua capacidade de entender o inglês falado em vários contextos, nos diversos sotaques (inglês, americano, indiano, chinês) e nos váriados contextos (bar, relacionamentos, apresentações no trabalho).
A maioria dos alunos – que anteriormente optaram por estudar com métodos tradicionais – não são tão bem desenvolvidos na escuta quanto na leitura e na escrita, o que os deixa despreparados para a comunicação no mundo real. Por isso, na Academia BSB, nos preocupamos em desenvolver a capacidade do aluno de entender na velocidade natural para falantes fluentes e com suas nuances contextuais.
Por meio dos Podcasts Help-outs e Podcast Challenges, preparamos o alunos para treinar seus ouvidos de nameira orientada para cada nível da sua maturidade linguística e com vistas a preencher as lacunas entre o conhecimento teórico e o uso prático da linguagem. Criamos materiais de ouvir que correspondem aos interesses e níveis de proficiência dos nossos aluno. Trabalhando bem essas habilidade, o estudante por tabela também está trabalhando em suas habilidades gerais de linguagem, fazendo com que sua autoconfiança aumente tanto em ambientes sociais como em situações profissionais.

Em nossas aulas, usamos materiais de escuta que atendem a diferentes níveis e interesses do CEFRL. Por exemplo:
