UNIT 57 – PASSIVE FORM
A – What is the Passive Voice?
A voz passiva é usada quando queremos enfatizar a ação ou o resultado da ação, e não quem a realizou.
Na voz ativa, o sujeito realiza a ação. Na voz passiva, o sujeito recebe a ação.
A estrutura básica da voz passiva é:
Subject + verb “be” + past participle
- The book was written by a famous author.
- The machine was invented in 1879.
- The letter was sent yesterday.

UNIT 58 – PASSIVE FORM (PRESENT AND PAST)
A – Passive in Present and Past Tenses
A voz passiva pode ser usada em diferentes tempos verbais. O verbo be muda de acordo com o tempo da frase.
Present Passive
- The novel is published every year.
- The machines are tested carefully.
Past Passive
- The telephone was invented in the nineteenth century.
- The experiment was completed yesterday.

UNIT 59 – PASSIVE FORM (PERFECT TENSES AND FUTURE)
A – Passive in Perfect and Future Forms
A voz passiva também pode aparecer em tempos perfeitos e no futuro.
Present Perfect Passive
- The research has been completed.
- The story has been translated into many languages.
Future Passive
- The new bridge will be built next year.
- The results will be announced tomorrow.

UNIT 60 – PASSIVE WITH MODALS, INFINITIVES AND CONDITIONAL
A – Passive with Modal Verbs
Depois de verbos modais (can, must, should, may), a voz passiva é formada com:
modal + be + past participle
- The problem must be solved.
- The report can be finished tomorrow.
Também podemos usar a voz passiva com infinitivo ou estruturas condicionais.
- The device needs to be repaired.
- The plan would be approved if the results were better.
UNIT 61 – PASSIVE WITH DOUBLE OBJECTS
A – Reporting Structures
Alguns verbos permitem duas formas de voz passiva quando possuem dois objetos.
- They gave her a prize.
- She was given a prize.
- A prize was given to her.
Estruturas de relato também aparecem frequentemente na voz passiva.
- He is said to be a brilliant scientist.
- The invention is believed to be revolutionary.
UNIT 62 – CAUSATIVE STRUCTURES
A – Make, Let, Get and Have
Algumas estruturas em inglês indicam que alguém faz outra pessoa realizar uma ação.
Make / Let someone do something
- The teacher made the students rewrite the essay.
- The manager let the employees leave early.
Get someone to do something
- She got the technician to fix the computer.
Have / Get something done
- I had my car repaired yesterday.
- He got his watch fixed.
UNIT 63 – PERCEPTION VERBS
A – See Someone Do / Doing Something
Alguns verbos de percepção como see, hear, watch podem ser seguidos por diferentes estruturas verbais.
- I saw him cross the street.
- I saw him crossing the street.
A primeira estrutura enfatiza a ação completa. A segunda enfatiza a ação em progresso.
Também é possível usar a forma passiva nessas estruturas.
- The painting was seen being removed from the gallery.
