My name is Romario Wood, I work for the The United Kingodom Royal Mail Group and I live with my family in a suburban area of South Hampton in Great Britain. I am a 38-year-old father of two children: a teenage boy Theagow and an 8-year-old girl Deborah. My wife’s maiden name was Ana Axe, now I call by her indigenous nickname: Noya. She is a stay-at-home mom and here’s how we manage our time throughout the week.
I wake up early and get ready for work at 7 AM. After having breakfast with my family, I drive about 10 miles to the post office, which takes around 30 minutes. My workday involves delivering mail and packages, so I drive a postal truck around the city. After work, I usually stop by the supermarket to pick up groceries. The supermarket is about 5 miles from the post office and takes me 15 minutes to get there by car. The supermarket has around 20 aisles and carries a wide variety of products, so I spend about 30 minutes shopping there.
In the evenings, my wife and I go to Academia BSB twice a week. We drive together to the school, which is 8 miles away from our house, taking us about 20 minutes. To get there, we go straight on Maple Street, turn right onto Pine Avenue, and go past the library. The school is on the corner of Pine Avenue and Oak Street. On other evenings, I help my kids with their homework and spend time with them.
We have two cars in our household but my wife enjoys bus rides when she wants to do her nails or to have her hair done. She mostly uses the car to pick up and drop off the kids at school. Twice monthly she hits the road to take them to Academia English Camp by car. It takes me 40 minutes to get to the farms where the activities happen, but because Mrs Axe drives carefully, it takes her one hour and a half. There she meets and chats with other moms, while she waits for the kids to take part in their physical and intellectual games.
On Saturday mornings I play with my childhood friends at a nearby park, which is 2 miles away from our house. I usually bike there, which takes about 10 minutes. To get to the park, I go straight on Elm Street, turn left at the second crosswalk, and the park is on the right after two blocks. After soccer, I help my wife with household chores and run errands like picking up supplies from the hardware store, which is 3 miles away. In the evenings, when we don’t house dinners for our friends, I use my time to read books and browse for friends’ pictures on Facebook.
On Sunday mornings, my whole family goes to church. We drive together, and it’s a 20-minute drive covering 12 miles. We go straight on Main Street, turn left onto Church Road, and go past the gas station. The church is on the corner of Church Road and First Street. After church, when the weather is nice, we usually have a family barbecue in the afternoon. We enjoy cooking and spending time in our backyard. It’s the perfect time to play with our pets and to make sure they are fed and groomed.
Managing my work, family, and personal activities requires careful planning and time management. Using different means of transportation, such as cars and bikes, and sometimes walking, helps us efficiently run errands and fulfill our weekly commitments. For instance, it takes about 5 minutes to walk to the local pharmacy from our house, as it’s just two blocks away.
In summary, our routine is well-organized to balance work, house chores, and family time. Ana and I work together to ensure that we can attend our Portuguese lessons at Academia BSB, manage our kids’ activities, and take care of our home and pets. Despite our busy schedule, we always make time for each other and our self-care, ensuring that our family stays connected and happy.
